Talk Therapy (Alone) Is Not Enough: Creative Practices for Trauma Treatment
This groundbreaking book is written by Dr. Dorothy Adamson Holley, a Developmental Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Social, Worker and Healer through Music. She has over 30 years of experience in treating clients who do not respond well to traditional treatment. Using nontraditional creative practices to heal her own trauma, Dr. Adamson Holley offers insights and creative approaches to help clinicians work more effectively with trauma survivors. Creative practices are considered outside of the mainstream of "evidence-based" practices; yet they offer clients opportunities to access and express traumatic memories in safe, nonthreatening ways. Talk therapy alone is not enough. This book covers key concepts and principles that are essential for working with trauma survivors. It offers no-cost and low-cost, effective healing strategies that can be implemented immediately. It is rich with examples from the author's personal and professional life. If you are a clinician whose clients are stuck in talk therapy, this book will be a useful resource.

Amazon Review
Dr. Dot is a rock star. Using laymen's terms to explain trauma and where it resides in the body, she challenges assumptions about the effectiveness of talk therapy as a method for treating deep-seated trauma. Her theories are based on her personal experiences with art, music, and poetry, and they are also backed by scientific research. Because she is open and honest about her own experiences, you feel that she is accessible, but also credible. In addition, Dr. Dot shares practical tips for immediately practicing what she suggests in the book. I would recommend this book to clinicians, educators, and those who practice "alternative" healing modalities including yogis, massage therapists, reiki practitioners, artists, and musicians. For those who are currently feeling stuck with talk therapy, I recommend checking out what Dr. Dot has to say. Get the book... you'll love it.

Excellent read. Concise, intelligent, personal and practical. Dr. Holley is extremely knowledgeable about trauma treatment and recovery, allowing her to write in a way that makes otherwise complex information clear, simple and accessible.

Drumetry: Drumming with Poetry
I began writing poetry while in a state of deep emotional pain, and it was through poetic expression that I began to experience the healing of my deepest emotional wounds. When I added the ancient, sacred practice of African drumming, my poetry came to life! I coined the term Drumetry™ (drumming and poetry) to describe this art form. Drumetry is medicinal music on a mission. Music is the medicine, and its mission is to heal.
Drumetry content is inspired by my own healing, my work with clients, human nature, and Nature. In writing this book, I noticed these themes and organized this book around them: Love/Self-Love, Empathy and Compassion, Cultural Pride, Freedom, Nature/Divinity.
In addition to the poems, this book shares my inspiration and motivation for writing each poem. There is also space for the reader to interact with each poem through reflections and musings, and there is an invitation for readers to unleash their inner poet.
Birthing Drumetry was an exercise in freedom, and it can be likened to the archetypal Hero’s Journey, popularized by Joseph Campbell: to live through pain, to be transformed by it, and to share the gifts and wisdom with others. Drumetry is my gift to you. Unwrap it and enjoy!
To hear Drumetry performed, you can check out my Drumetry albums, Drumetry: Medicinal Music on a Mission and Drumetry Unleashed! Both are available for download on Bandcamp and are also available on all major streaming platforms.
